Foundation Course "Practice of Yoga" - 2010
The Inner Yoga Trust school runs a three year Teachers Training and Awareness Programme, accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga.
Each year is distinct in its purpose. Classes for all three years are taught on weekends. The first year, the "Foundation Year" is non-residential and can be taken as a module on its own. Years two and three are residential and also include a residential retreat week.
Course Structure
The Foundation Course is designed to give students an understanding of the Inner Yoga approach to postures and the importance of connecting this with the eight limbs of yoga. The practice of asana and the eight limbs of yoga gradually integrates our yoga into the rest of our lives. During the Foundation course students learn the postures working up from the feet and ankles, through the pelvis to the spine to bring life and awareness to the whole body. ‘Your Yoga Body Map for Vitality’ Jenny Beeken’s second book follows this structure, and is the main text for students on the foundation course.
The second year focuses on the Path of Yoga. We contemplate how the ancient sacred texts can have meaning in our life today, together with more in depth practise of asana, pranayama and meditation.
The third year concentrates on passing this teaching on to others, individually or in classes.
Foundation Year Programme Starting Sept 2010 (dates to be announced)
This consists of six non-residential weekends. The programme for each weekend is Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday 10am - 4pm.
Weekend 1 - Feet and Ankles:
How the feet and ankles affect the rest of the body, an introduction to the philosophy of yoga and an introduction to pranayama and meditation.
Weekend 2 - Hips and Pelvis:
The structure and anatomy and physiology of the pelvis. How the pelvis moves and enables movement. How it connects to the feet and how the movement and life in the feet connects into the hip.
Weekend 3 - The Spine:
How the movement of the pelvis connects to the spine and how the spine will come to life and move from the freedom of the pelvis.
Weekend 4 - Chest and Breast Bone:
How the chest and breastbone connect into the sacrum and pelvis, and how the movement up into the breastbone and across the collarbone connects to the pelvis.
Weekend 5 - Shoulder Girdle, Arms and Hands:
The whole shoulder girdle, arms and hands and how they connect to the neck and thoracic spine.
Weekend 6 - Neck and Head:
How the head, skull and the neck connect into the rest of the body.
Cost and booking
The cost of the 2009 Foundation Course is a total of €1050 for the six weekends, payable by a €200 deposit and monthly direct debits of €106.25 over 8 months.

Jenny Beeken
Jenny
Beeken originally took a BSc in Physics followed by a Cert.Ed and
taught in Secondary schools for five years, practising yoga at this
time and teaching yoga to both staff and pupils.
In 1979 she left full time teaching to study yoga in India with BKS Iyengar. the study with him then and subsequently in 1981 is still a source of great inspiration, knowledge and understanding. (She took the elementary and junior intermediate certificate). Her more recent teachers are Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten from whom she gained a deep understanding of the inner body, inner awareness and movement. Her own extensive practice has deepened this understanding.
So while the precision, detail and insight characteristic of Iyengar's teaching is apparent in her own, there is less emphasis on the postures and more on inner awareness. The emphasis in her teaching is on balance of the inner energies and healing oneself and others through yoga.
Pauline Sawyer
Pauline
Sawyer has practised yoga on an inner level for many years, gaining
deep insight and understanding from the body and its link to the mind
and spirit through looking at herself in this way. She has made an
extensive study of other disciplines. Pauline brings her insight and
intuitive awareness into observing and teaching both the asanas and the
sacred texts.
