Remedial Yoga Day for MS with AnnMarie Hynes

Next course in 2012                  Sat  10.00am - 5pm.                Cost €60 for full day.

When our body or mind has been subjected to illness, injury or trauma of any description, in order to protect the physical system and survive, the person who underwent the trauma, instinctively guards the area from within, all the way out to the muscles involved. The message sent from mind to muscles is to contract and hold thus keeping the almost original muscle memory of the difficulty within.

Remedial Yoga remedies this by creating an environment of trust and confidence in the body’s own natural well being. This helps to loosen the habitual holding into a releasing and relaxing of the wounded or traumatised area.

Introducing an eight-week Programme

In

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

Mindfulness is the act of intentionally bringing awareness to the present moment: paying attention in a particular way on purpose and non-judgmentally. This skill is developed through commitment to training in regular mindfulness practice. Mindfulness cultivates a way of being that allows people to live with greater freedom from stress, tension and strain.

It is rooted in Eastern spiritual traditions, which have now been applied in an entirely secular way, in what are known as Mindfulness Based Approaches (MBAs). This course is based on the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn and the renowned Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme. As well as input from mindfulness based cognitive therapy.

A body of rigorous scientific research has been carried out supporting the benefits of these approaches in dealing with a range of difficulties including, stress, anxiety, chronic illness, pain, relapse prevention in depression and chronic fatigue. MBA’s are now being used internationally in a variety of settings including primary care, hospitals, community care, schools and businesses.

The Alexander Technique a method of personal education which involves self awareness and releasing muscular tension. This excessive tension slowly accumulates over many years of stressful living and often starts in childhood and, if left unchecked, can give rise later in life to common ailments such as arthritis, neck and back pain, migraine, hypertension, sciatica, insomnia and even depression. Vast amounts of money are being spent on the treatment of these illnesses, to say nothing of the pain and discomfort that is felt by the patient, yet every year the number of patients carries on increasing. Once you have acquired this amazing tool it is yours for life.
